This coming Sunday March 20th is a full moon and the Spring Equinox. I am gathering some people here in Pittsburgh at 2:30 – 4:30 pm for a two part workshop, InterPlay: A Spiritual Practice for Embodied Worship.

Our globe seems so small lately, and our fates and futures so intertwined. More than halfway around the world the Japanese people are in devastation from an earthquake and tsunami. The entire world waits and worries about what will happen if the nuclear material from their power plants escapes into the atmosphere and travels to touch people we know personally. I invite you to join us, in person, or in intention, as we dance on behalf of the people of Japan and people round the world.

I started dancing my prayers in 1967 when I was a member of Festival Dancers, a dance company at the Detroit Jewish Community Center, directed by Harriet Berg. We were invited to bring our initial theater piece, “Make a Joyful Noise,” danced to Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, to churches and synagogues throughout the region. In our travels, we danced in many worship spaces but it wasn’t until we performed at the Sacred Dance Guild conference in a hotel ballroom, that I finally understood what we were doing was praying.

The Sacred Dance Guild’s website, http://www.sacreddanceguild.org/ describes their mission to “promote dance as prayer, and as a means of spiritual growth, connection to The Divine, and integration of mind, body, and spirit.” Their motto is “Dancing the Sacred, Moving the World.”

Come join us this Sunday to dance the Sacred and help us Move the World!
